Archives of the Republic of Slovenia

The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia is the central and largest archival institution in Slovenia and operates as a body within the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. As the national archives, it is responsible for the preservation, acquisition, arrangement, description, and accessibility of public archival records created by state authorities, public services, the Bank of Slovenia, and other governmental institutions. In addition to public records, it also preserves private and film archives and maintains important registers of archival materials held both in Slovenia and abroad that are connected to Slovenia, the Slovene ethnic territory, and Slovenes worldwide. The archival records preserved by the Archives constitute a permanent part of the nation’s cultural heritage and are of invaluable significance to the state, the Slovene nation, and its people. These materials were created over centuries through the activities of regional, state, and local administrative and judicial bodies, as well as numerous organizations, associations, families, and individuals active in the Slovenian territory. Today, the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia holds approximately 30,000 linear metres of archival material organized in around 2,000 fonds and collections. Within the RESILIENCE-SI consortium, the Archives serves as a key partner by providing researchers with access to both original and digitized archival sources. Through their professional expertise, the archive’s staff facilitate deeper engagement with archival materials and foster stronger collaboration among Slovenian and international researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
