The 39th Conference of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (SISR/ISSR), entitled “Worlds at the Brink: Religion, Performativity and Future-making”, will take place in Buenos Aires in February 2027 and will bring together scholars of religion from around the world. The conference will explore the role of religion and spirituality in a time of social, political, and environmental crises, examining how religious narratives, rituals, and practices shape visions of the future. Particular attention will be given to questions of authority, community, inequality, violence, and the challenges facing democracy in the contemporary world.
